About this Event
The Scooter Cannonball will begin in Bar Harbor, Maine and finish in Eureka, California. The total distance of the recommended riding course is estimated to be 4,250 miles. Registered Riders will be granted access to the Registered Riders Forum to receive hotel, route, planning information, and discussion with other registered participants.
The Scooter Cannonball is a coast to coast endurance challenge for scooters held every two years since 2004. This event is a test of both rider and machine that takes in some of the best motorcycle roads on the North American continent. The Scooter Cannonball is a time/distance/regularity rally where points are awarded based on miles completed and the ability to maintain the standard pace.
Route & Overnight Locations
The Scooter Cannonball will overnight in the following cities. Riders should riding between on 375 to 475 each day between hotels.

July 12, 2021: Killington, VT
July 13, 2021: Niagara Falls, ON
July 14, 2021: Gaylord, MI
July 15, 2021: Marshfield, WI
July 16, 2021: Huron, SD
July 17, 2021: Hot Springs, SD
July 18, 2021: Rock Springs, WY
July 19, 2021: Delta, UT
July 20, 2021: Fernley, NV
July 21, 2021: Eureka, CA
There is a border crossing into Canada in Niagara Falls. Special scoring accommodations will be made for riders unable to enter Canada. This will require riding an additional 450 miles the following day (approximately 750 miles total).
Scooter Cannonball Rules
Riders are awarded points based on their ability to ride and navigate their scooter to predefined checkpoints each day. This is not a race. No benefits, actual or implied, monetary or otherwise are awarded to any rider who finishes with the highest number of accumulated points each day or at the conclusion of the event. The event has established rules that are intended to provide all participants (riders, support personnel, spectators) with a common understanding of the format of the event. Riders will find the rules to be consistent with the 2018 Scooter Cannonball Rules.
Qualifying Scooters & Handicap System
Participation is limited to Scooters with an engine displacement less than 280cc. A Scooter is a two or three wheeled vehicle that satisfies AT LEAST THREE OF FIVE of the following conditions:
unit construction of engine, transmission and rear swing arm
wheels no larger than 10 inches
originally equipped with a step-through style frame
originally equipped with running boards or leg shield
a single cylinder engine design
The Scooter Cannonball uses a handicap system for scoring purposes. The handicap is based on both the age and displacement of your scooter and is normalized to a hypothetical scooter. For more information please use the Handicap Calculator.
Registration Information
Registration is open to a limited number of participants (approximately 125 riders). This limit is determined by hotel availability and event format/capacity. Registration closes no later than June 6, 2021.
An Entrant consists of one specific scooter and one specific rider together. The registration fee is non-refundable. Entrant registration is non-transferable. Organizers reserve the right to reject any registration for any reason. If your registration is rejected, you will receive a full refund.
Add-on items (Scorecard Booklet and Sewn Patches) will ship on or before June 1, 2021. T-shirts and other Cannonball merchandise will be able for purchase through our website.
You are not bound to riding the specific scooter you identify at the time of registration. This is requested for information purposes only. Your entry scooter and final handicap will be calculated at the start of the event. You will need to registration an account in our Registered Riders Forum, http://forum.scootercannonballrun.com prior to registration.
You understand that this is not a race. The Cannonball does not condone unsafe activities such as excessive speed, reckless vehicle operation, riding impaired, or any other activity that results in riders exceeding their personal limits, endangering other riders or the public.
You will be required to sign an acknowledgement prior to the commencement of the Cannonball Run, certifying that they understand the rules and that you are aware of the risks inherent in participating in the event. The rules and specific acknowledgements will be made available in advance of the event on the Registered Riders Forum.
